On October 13, 2023, our dear friend Merve experienced a life-changing accident as a pedestrian involved in a severe traffic collision. She fought for her life in intensive care, connected to machines for survival. During and immediately after the accident, her heart stopped twice. She suffered a traumatic brain injury, internal bleeding, and critical damage to several internal organs, requiring multiple surgeries. Merve also endured fractures in her arms, legs, face, and skull, along with gangrene in her fingers and toes.

Due to the life-threatening nature of her injuries, her family was urgently called to the U.S., where doctors delivered devastating news: Merve was unlikely to recover. They predicted she would remain bedridden, unable to speak, hear, or even see.

But Merve defied all odds.

After spending 1.5 months in a coma, she began to show signs of life. Gradually, doctors started to wean her off life-support machines. She opened her eyes but initially couldn’t see or communicate. Two and a half months later, her vision began to return. By the third month, she was able to eat on her own and was taking her first assisted steps. Slowly, she began forming simple words. Every small milestone felt like a miracle.

Today, 14 months after the accident, Merve’s recovery journey continues. However, the aftermath of losing parts of her fingers and toes to gangrene has deeply affected her both physically and emotionally. She relies on her family for daily care and struggles to regain her independence.

To help Merve fully embrace life again, she urgently needs prosthetic fingers and toes. Unfortunately, her current insurance does not cover the cost of these prosthetics, and her family cannot afford this expense on their own.
